Lines Through
aLens

These are some pictures from an exhibition I had in March 2019.

The colour pictures are all taken digitally in the last few years. A combination of holidays and business have given me the opportunity to travel, especially to China.

I rediscovered this picture while planning this exhibition and realised it was the essence of the show. Taken almost 40 years ago on Kodachrome slide film, it was printed in black and white to accentuate the lines and shapes and detract from the child’s red suit. It is my interest in shapes and patterns that is featured in these photos. (Hyde Park, London 1980)

Taken at a photo exhibition and camera sale, this both highlights the people and the photos on show. The multi-storey venue offers space for business start-ups and acts as a community centre for the area. (The Jockey Club, Hong Kong 2016)

As much an exercise in colour as lines and shapes, this view of a hotel gives clues as to its location. But it is the angles and shades that really appeal. (Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt 2011)

Again, an exercise in colour and shape and lines. But more than capturing on one exposure Novak Djokovic’s ball toss, the image has his hand seeming perfectly to touch the edge of the court. (Beijing Open, 2015)

Closer to home, this is one of a series taken in my sitting room over several years. The rising sun formed ever-changing patterns though the Georgian-style windows and highlighted the void beyond. (Highgate, London 2013)
